Sampling at Halloween.
Why sample your product or brand at Halloween? And what are the benefits? Won’t it just get lost in the noise of this huge holiday festival? Not if you make your brand stand out. Read on…
Because your brand or product can capitalise on a number of things. Firstly there’s the sheer volume of people. From fancy dress to sweets to chocolate there are plenty of opportunities. In the lead up to Halloween there tends to be a higher footfall in high streets and at commuter hubs. And most notably on the day itself. We find that workers and 9-to-5ers are in a far more receptive mood on Halloween and the sampling uptake is higher.
Jumping on the bandwagon won’t achieve much cut through. Finding a unique point of difference will. Take this activation we delivered for Lee Kum Kee Chilli Oil for example. Not a product you’d usually associate with Halloween. The hook was simple. Create 2000 chilli jam injected doughnuts. Make some of them mild, make some of them super hot. So in a short of chilli-based-lottery some consumers got a mildly warm chilli jam donut, others got a mouthful of fire.
It created a huge buzz around Clapham Junction station. Furthermore it gained lots of press coverage and social media traction as well as introducing 2000 commuters to the Lee Kum Kee brand.
Capitalising on the Halloween theme and colour palette is an easy win. Slimy greens, black, red and pumpkin orange. All colours that were used to create the on-trend artwork and full body wrap for the promo van you see here. Far from being clichéd the brand successfully used the activation in a tongue-in-cheek way. In fact the bat-doughnut image is very basic and looks very clipart. But that’s kind of the point. It’s successfully parodies Halloween without taking itself too seriously.
